X Disputed Territory

Debate Event

It is said that it is better to debate an issue without
settling it than settle an issue without debating it
and we couldn’t agree more. Disputed Territory
is an event where mindless rhetoric will give
way to logical argumentation and where skillful
rebuttals will mean more than merely having the
last word.
Elims:
Each participant shall speak either for or against
a given topic for a stipulated time of 60 seconds.
The preparation time allotted before the speech
is also 60 seconds.
Format for the semi-finals and finals will be
revealed on the spot.
Please Note:
- Topics will be given on the spot.
- A maximum of two contingent entries from
each college will be allowed.
Judging Criteria: Logical reasoning, Articulation,
Persuasiveness, Argumentation.

X The Situation Room

Crisis Management Event

The clock ticks on relentlessly. The news
anchor shouts incessantly. The army stands in
readiness. The people wait with bated breath,
scared with the news. The decisions you make
will decide the fate of millions. Will you rise to
the occasion or be crushed by your inability to
take action? If you have what it takes, Conclave
gives you a chance to wear those shoes, be that
hero, and with a nation counting on you, make
the decisions you hope will see your people
through.

Participants are given the role of the Union
Cabinet of India during a nationwide crisis. They
are required to write and submit their course of
action during the elimination round, within the
3 hour time slot.

Live updates and information on the crisis
situation shall be provided at intervals during
the event, which must be incorporated in the
submission on the day of eliminations.
The format of the finals shall be revealed to the
qualifying teams at the time of declaration of
results. Please Note

• The submission must be written in its entirety on the day
  of eliminations, at the event venue.
• Submissions must be handwritten.
• Vulgarity, obscenity and profanity are strictly prohibited.
• No external help from any source is permitted during
  the event. Usage of electronic devices is prohibited.

Judging Criteria: Feasibility, Effectiveness of responses to the crisis,
Adaptation of response based on live updates, Overall management of crisis.

X Caricapture

News Cartooning Event

The constant cacophony of opinions being
vented left, right and centre cries out for a simpler
viewpoint – something that gets a message
across with just a glance. We at Conclave believe
that a cartoon is worth a thousand words and
will let you do just that – capture the essence of
an opinion with a simplistic depiction.
Participants will be given a series of fictitious
news stories on the day of the event. They will
then have to choose any two topics and depict
their take on them in a cartoon format.

Please note:

• Only sketching and drawing is allowed.
No use of colours.
• Materials provided: 2 A4 sheets of paper, HB
  Pencils.
• Medium to be used: HB pencils only.
• Supplementary
  stationery items like erasers and sharpeners are to be brought by the
  participants themselves.

Direct finals.
Judging Criteria: Relevance of the cartoon with respect to the news
story, Creativity, Effectiveness of depiction, Artistic appeal.

Creative ingenuity, excellent plotlines and
artistic flair. This event gives you the opportunity
to shoot telling photographs, write enthralling
stories, draw fascinating posters and combine
them in a melting pot of creativity, leaving us to
connect the shots.

Elims: Participating teams will be provided with a list
of short story topics on the day of the event. They are expected to
click a series of five photographs depicting a story based on a topic of
their choice. These pictures must be clicked outside the college
premises, in the accompaniment of an assigned Malhar volunteer. By the
end of the stipulated duration, participants must be back in college to
submit their photographs.

Please Note:

•  Only digital cameras (including DSLRs) will be allowed.
• No flash allowed.
• Participants need to carry their own USB cords/memory card
  readers.
• Editing the photographs in any manner will not be permitted.
• Vulgarity and obscenity is prohibited.

Judging criteria: Composition of the photo-story,
Relevance to the short story topic selected, Creativity, Photography
skills.
Finals: Each team will have to write a short story based on the topic
and the 5 photographs submitted by them. A list of surprise elements
will be given to the participants on the day of the Finals and these
must be incorporated in the story. The entire story has to remain
relevant to the photographs. Additionally, the teams will have to draw
and paint a poster which captures the essence of their story.

•  Teams are prohibited from using any kind of external help
• Material to be provided in the finals: Imperial sheets
• Medium to be used: Water colours only.

Judging Criteria: Originality, Writing skills,
Incorporation of the surprise elements, Relevance of story to the

Film Making + Literary Event

Are the corners to your copy of the Oxford
Dictionary of Quotations dog-eared? Can you
make a million meanings out of something
someone once said? On a completely unrelated
note, are you also skilled at movie making? Don’t
get your handy-cam wires in a twist searching
for the answer. Show us what you think a movie
is about.

This is your time to shine behind the lens. Send
in your short films and help us understand the
art of cinema the way you see it. However, we
should warn you that quills, rather than cameras,
will help you in the finals. But this is Malhar
Zara Hatke. So come in expecting nothing, and
prepare to be surprised


Please Note:

• Duration of the film should be between 4-7 minutes.
• Credits if any should be included within the time frame provided.
• No live narration of any kind during the screening of the short films
  will be allowed.
• There are no eliminations. It is based on a cumulative scoring system.
  Points will be awarded for the short film and for the LA round.
• The Literary Arts (LA) round of the crossover event will be held on the
  final days of Malhar. • Details about the event, release of theme, further
  guidelines etc. will be given on the day of the CL meet.

X FACE THE FUSION

Fusion Band Event

Capturing the ethos of Indian music and the
zing and twang of the West, the fusion band
event beckons you to unleash your passion and
soak in the perfect sync of Indian and Western
musical elements. Mastermind a fusion, create
your own rhapsody, fuse the desi with the
videshi and explore the possibilities of Indian
and Western music beyond their images as
solo genres.

Elims: Participants are required to choose one or more
songs from the list of bands provided on the website after the CL meet
and improvise on them with a blend of Indian and western musical
elements.
Finals: Participants are required to perform a modified
version of their elims performance along with an original fusion
composition. The performance must include a face-off between the lead
Indian and western instrument.
Judging Criteria: Creativity, Improvisation, Harmony
and Rhythm, Balance of Indian and Western Elements, Overall Performance,
Face-off (Finals only).

Please Note:

• At least one vocalist is compulsory.
• One lead Indian instrument and one lead western instrument along with
  one percussion instrument is a must.
• Distortion is prohibited.
• List of instruments being used and the song selected must be submitted at the
  participant meet.

Theme Interpretation Event

Think you can turn a blob of mud into a dazzling
masterpiece that'll remain etched in our
memory? This year we bring to you an all new
kind of dirty! Learn how to create art not with
regular paint, but mud! Join us as we go back to
our roots and explore the elementary facets of
art.

This event is preceded by a workshop where
mud painting will be taught to the participants
so as to prepare them for the finals.

Elims: Participants will be taught the basics of mud painting after which they will be required to create a mud painting.
Finals: Participants will be required to make a mud painting by interpreting the Malhar theme. Materials provided: A mixture
of mud, Fevicol and mountboard. Medium to be used: Mud, brushes , cotton
and toothpicks only.
Judging Criteria: Creativity, Use of space, Relevance to theme, Use of Medium, Aesthetic Appeal.

X Khoon Chala

Street Play

“Those who forget history are condemned to
repeat it.”

This year, we reinvent the traditional street
play to revisit the problems of the past and yet
infuse them with the relevance of the present
- combining the freedom of the stage with the
significance of issues that have, in the past,
affected us and continue to do so.

Elims: Participating teams are required to present a
street play on one of the topics provided on the website after the CL
meet. The topics will be based on historic social issues.
Judging Criteria: Acting, Originality, Use of space, Relevance to topic.
Finals: The qualifying teams will be required to present both the story presented in the Elims as well as draw a parallel
in contemporary society. The manner of the inclusion of the parallel is
left up to the team.
Judging Criteria: Acting, Originality, Use of space, Relevance to topic, Depiction of parallel drawn to contemporary society.

Please Note:

• The performance area is in a 360 degree format and 24 ft in
  diameter.
• The play must be in Hindi. However, it may contain occasional
  colloquial use of other languages.
• The topic chosen along with the script must be submitted on the
  day of the participant meet.
• Minimum essential props may be used, a list of which must be
  provided on the day of the participant meet.
• Vulgarity and obscenity are prohibited.
• Use of electronic instruments is prohibited.
• Non-electronic instruments, while optional, must be listed with

a wild blend of sports and games you only
thought you knew. If you think you’re built
to handle the pressure of ruthless physical
challenges tied together with intense mind
games and the occasional pinch of good
fortune, gather your troops and prepare for
battle, because luck is what happens when
preparation meets opportunity.

Two substitutes will be allowed (1 Boy + 1 Girl).

• Teams will be eliminated after each round during the final days.
• In all matters the decision of the sports official will be final.

you all to Malhar’s online treasure hunt. Join
this wild chase from clue to clue and link to link
through virtual labyrinthine passages and claim
that metaphorical pot of virtual gold.

Pandemonium

Task Oriented Event

“There is a pleasure sure, in being mad, which
none but madmen know!”

Your grades, your attendance, your positions
of power, none of it will matter. Because at the
University of Persistent Pandemonium (UPP),
we only expect the unexpected, crave the
unpredictable and long for the eccentric. We
give you the city, a long (read very, very long!)
list of fun, crazy and embarrassing tasks, and a
stipulated amount of time to complete them. So
what are you waiting for? We’re the University
of Persistent Pandemonium and admissions are
now open!

• Teams earn points by completing a wide range of
  tasks in a public place within the given time limit with emphasis on creativity,
  exploration,
  community involvement and performance.
• Points allotted to each task
  differ depending on the difficulty of the task and the quality with
  which it is performed.
• Participants will have to send in pictures and
  videos which will serve as proof of completion of the tasks. This
  digital proof will be recorded in the presence of an ETC volunteer on
  the day of the event.

Like to pop, lock, and drop it? Are you born

Elims: Participants are required to stage a performance
on any form/forms of Street dance.

Finals: Participants are required to perform an
extended/ modified version of their elims routine, adding a Futuristic
element to their performance.

darkened hall using the effects created by UV lighting which will be

Finals: An extended/modified version of the Elims is
expected.

Latin Ballroom Dance Event

Whether it’s the rumba, cha cha or tango, Latin
dancing is all about spicing it up. So bring out
the dancing shoes and the shimmery dresses
and revel in the Latin spirit.

Elims: Participants are required to prepare a routine
to any song of their choice, incorporating one or more dance forms from
the following list: Tango Merengue Samba Jive Rumba Cha cha Salsa Mambo
Bolero
Finals: Participants are required to perform any 2
dance forms from the above list while incorporating a Salsa shine into their routine.
Judging Criteria: Choreography, Use of space provided,
Synchronization, Relevance of dance style to the music, Body language,

extended/ modified version of their elims performance.

Duet Singing Event

Is belting out a melody a regular occurrence
for you? Do you need that perfect partner to
complete your song? Then we don’t see what’s
stopping you from getting this show on the
road.

Elims: Participants are required to perform an
improvisation of a song without musical
accompaniments. No A1 tracks are allowed.
Judging Criteria: Pitch and Tone, Rhythm and
Timing, Clarity and Modulation, Co-ordination,
Synchronization, Overall Performance.

Semi-Finals: Participants are required to pick a song from
a Broadway or West End Musical. An A1 track
is mandatory for this round. Harmonies and
Seconds are not allowed on the A1 track.
Judging Criteria: Pitch and Tone, Clarity and
Modulation, Co-ordination, Synchronization,
Overall Performance.

Finals: Participants must perform a medley of any
two tracks with an acoustic instrument.
The CA registered can be the instrumental
accompanist. Only one instrument is allowed.

Come create an unparalleled experience of

set including one or more tracks from the list put up on the Malhar
website on the day of the CL Meet.
Judging Criteria: Creativity, Clean mixing skills, Track selection and Overall performance.

• A mixer with 2 CDJ-1000 decks will be provided. Participants will be required to bring their own headphones
• No vulgarity or obscene language with respect to the performance is permitted.
• No computer operated software/hardware is allowed

X 21 Junk Street

Junk Art Event

This Malhar, we’re giving you the chance to
charm us with your junk-based Magnum Opus.
So get ready to kick it old school and get back
to the basics!

Participants have to create art work from junk items on the basis of a
theme that will be declared during the event. A list of 10 junk items
will be given to the contingents during the CL meet out of which only a
few will be provided on the day of the event.

Medium to be used: Acrylic paints, Fevicol, Scissors
and other junk items provided during the event only.
Material provided: A specific number of junk items out
of the list of 10 items declared during the CL meet.
Direct finals.
Judging Criteria: Use of space, Imagination, Use of
medium, Relevance to theme, Creativity.

X The Knight with
Kryptonite

Superhero Painting Event

It’s time to take centre stage. After all, you are
the hero of your own story.
Participants will be asked to create their
own superhero accompanied by a sidekick.
Following this, they will work with plywood
during the finals and will be given a surprise
element to incorporate in the same.

Elims: Participants will have to sketch an original
superhero and his/her sidekick with specific super powers.
Medium to be used: Charcoal pencils, generic pencils
and colour pencils only.
Material provided: Imperial sheets.
Please Note: Participants are allowed to use water
soluble colour pencils. However, use of the same does not give leverage
to the team in any way whatsoever.
Judging Criteria: Originality, Aesthetic appeal, Imagination, Creativity

Finals: Participants will be required to paint their
superhero and sidekick with acrylic and UV paints. A surprise element
will be disclosed at the time of the event that must be included in
their final piece.
Medium to be used: UV paints, acrylic paints, markers
(black only), cotton (for texture) and chalk only.
Material provided: UV paints and a 3 feet X 2 feet
piece of plywood.

X Pop Side Up

Pop Art Event

Unleash your inner Picasso with a ravishing
array of mediums at your disposal. In order to
be unforgettable, one must always be hatke.
Participants will be required to make four
panels on an imperial sheet provided to them.
Based on the theme (given on the spot) they
must make the sketches and use 1 medium in
each panel, the mediums being watercolors,
acrylic paints, a marble paper mosaic and
charcoal respectively.

Medium to be used: Watercolors, acrylic colours, marble
paper, charcoal pencils, glue and scissors only.
Material provided: Imperial sheet + packet of marble
paper.

Elims: Participants are required to build a story in a
logical sequence using at least 4 dialogues from Bollywood movies. The dialogues
chosen must be in the original form and not recorded by the participants.
Finals: Participants are required to perform an extended
and modified version of their Elims performance.
The performance must include 30 seconds of silent dance without any recorded music.
Judging Criteria: Choreography, Synchronization, Use of Space, Depiction of Story,
Costumes, Integration of silent dance (finals only), Overall Performance.
Please Note:

• A list of songs, props and selected dialogues must be submitted at Participant Meet.
• All CDs must be in Audio CD format.
• A 360-degree stage, 24 ft in diameter will be provided.
• Vulgarity and obscenity in songs, dance moves and costumes is prohibited.
• No dialogues can be recorded by the participants to supplement the original recording of the songs.
• No remixes are allowed.

Hindi Band Event

Is your musical finesse waiting to surface? Do
you feel the drum beats resonating deep within
your bones and the melodious vocals leaving
a trail of goose bumps? Here’s your chance
to dazzle thousands and own the stage with
soul-stirring music at the Hindi Band event.
Come create a wave and make Malhar your
music refuge.
Elims: Bands are required to improvise and perform on
any one Bollywood song of their choice. The song chosen must have been
composed and released after the year 2000.
Finals: Bands are required to include a condensed
version of their Elims performance and perform a mash-up of 2 or more
songs of their choice. There are no constraints on the pattern of the
mix, but equal importance should be given to each song in the mash-up.
Judging Criteria: Rhythm and Harmony, Choice of Songs, Sur,
Improvisation, Overall Performance, Quality of mash-up (finals only).

• A list of songs selected and instruments being used must be submitted at the Participant meet.
• Distortion is strictly prohibited.
• It is compulsory to have at least one vocalist.

Classical Dance Event

Nritya.”

Classical dance is an intrinsic mode of art
that showcases our innermost feelings and
communicates them to the world. Let rich
mythological tales come alive in the form of
graceful movements, energetic footwork,
intense emotions and beautiful postures.

Elims: Participants are required to perform a classical
dance piece based on a story from Lord Krishna’s life.
Finals: Participants are required to perform an
extended and modified version of their Elims performance along with a
suitable introduction to their performance.
Judging Criteria: Choreography, Laya/Taal, Depiction
through Abhinaya, Presentation, Incorporation of the theme, Overall
Performance.
Please Note:

• Movie and Pop songs are not allowed.
• Live Narration for introduction is allowed only for Finals and
  will be included in the performance time. Any other form of Live
  Narration will not be allowed.
• All music must be in Audio CD format
• Props are allowed and the list of the same must be submitted at the Participant Meet.

Duet Singing Event

Duet singing is about mazza and masti as much
as it is about synchronization and melody.
From Kishore Kumar to Sonu Nigam and Lata
Mangeshkar to Sunidhi Chauhan, every artist
has their own unique approach to singing with
a partner. Pick a partner, indulge in harmonies,
play around with the tunes and rise to the beats
as we introduce a new twist to the old art of duet
singing.
Elims: Round 1: Participants are required to sing a
song of their choice. Round 2: The format of the round will be explained
on the spot.
Finals: The participants will be required to sing a
medley of 3 songs, one being the same as their Elims performance.
The other two will have to be based on each of the two lists provided on the website after the CL meet.
Judging Criteria: Synchronization, Sur, Taal, Clarity
and Modulation, Choice of Song, Surprise element (for elims only),
Overall Performance.

Please Note:

• A1 tracks are allowed for finals only. Vocal support on the A1 tracks will not be allowed.
• Instruments are not allowed.

X Radio Talkies

RJ Hunt

Is friendly banter and casual chitchat your forte?
Have you always wanted to shout your opinion
out for the world to hear? If you have a ready wit
and the gift of the gab, come and talk your way
through IPA’s RJ Hunt event.

Elims: Participants have to come up with a name,
frequency and original jingle for their radio station. The content for
the show in this round is of the participant’s choice.
Finals: Participants will be given a genre/type of the
show after the Elims. They must base the show’s content around this.
Finalists will also be given products around which they have to build an
original advertisement as a part of the show. A list of songs will be
provided on the day of the Finals from which 3-5 songs must be
incorporated in the performance. At the end of the performance, there
will be an interactive round with the judges.
Judging Criteria: Content, Creativity, Voice
Modulation, Overall Performance, Incorporation of Theme (finals only),
Spontaneity (finals only).

• A laptop with the list of songs will be provided for the finals.
  Participants can use the laptop only to play these songs.
• The content must be in Hindi with only occasional use of colloquial
  words from other languages.
• Vulgarity or obscenity is prohibited.
• The interactive session with the judges is not included in the
  performance time for finals.

Shadow Dance Event

Ever wondered how your silhouettes could
dance out an entire story merely with the aid of
a small light source and a white screen? Shadow
dances are as old as the discovery of shadows
themselves and this year we give your shadows
a chance to groove to the beats and flaunt their
grace as they narrate a story behind the screen.
Let your shadows do the talking

Elims: Participants are required to depict a story
through their performance. They can make use of props, music and
pre-recorded narration to supplement it.
Finals: Participants are required to perform an
extended and modified version of their Elims performance.
Judging Criteria: Creativity,
Choreography, Space Utilization, Sound, Depiction of Story, Use of
Shadow, Overall Performance.

• Participants are required to perform in a darkened hall with the effects
  created by shadows. Lights for the same will be provided.
• At any given time only 3 participants will be allowed inside the
  performance area. The performance area is an 8ft x 6ft rectangular stage.
• Live Narration is not allowed.
• 1 CA is compulsory to handle music.
• All music, narration or sound effects that are used during the
  performance should be in Audio CD format.
• Vulgarity and obscenity in any form is strictly prohibited.
• A list of songs, props selected must be submitted at the Participant Meet

Investigative Journalism Event

The investigative journalist is not that much
different from Batman. When the world is
rife with crime and deceit they both have to
get to the bottom of things, follow clues, get
their hands dirty and make decisions that are
impossible for most people. Are you ready?
You’d better be. ’Cause this is Breaking News.
Plunge headfirst into the murky world of
investigative journalism, stay sharp and keep
your wits about you because in the end, you
take the call.

Elims: Written elims will be conducted online a week before Malhar.
Finals: Revealed on the spot.
Judging Criteria: Creativity, Use of Resources, Strength of Argument,
Writing Style.

Creative Writing Relay

We’ve all got a little Usain Bolt in us!
Ain’t nobody got time fo’ the blood, sweat
and tears that an actual running relay entails.
Instead, Raga offers you a writing relay.
So what are you waiting for? Get those creative
juices flowing, grab your lucky pen, and if you
really want to – your running shoes.
Team members are seated one behind the other.
Each writer gets 5 minutes inclusive of reading
time to write about the given topic after which
it passes to the next writer, and so on. This goes
around in circles.

Direct Finals.
Judging Criteria: Creativity, Link between each team
member’s entry, Grammar.
Please Note:

•  Laptops/mobile phones are prohibited.
• Instruments allowed: pens/ pencils.

Wire Modelling Workshop

The best sculptures do not always need marble,
stone or mud. A cut here, a snap there, a bit of a
twist and voila! There you have it, your very own
wire art! Apply your creative genius to wires and
watch them electrify your art.

Elims: The basics of wire modelling and metal
installations will be explained and demonstrated. An elimination round
will be held after the workshop.
Finals: The participants will be given a theme based on
which they will have to create their competing wire model. The model
will have to be named and supported by a description of the
participants’ understanding of the theme.
All material and equipment will be provided.
Please Note: Participants will not be allowed to carry
any drawings or sketches of their own. Participants will not be allowed
to carry any additional material.
Judging Criteria: Creativity, Visual appeal, Adherence
to the theme.
